LOCAL FILE WORKBENCH
Edit STL Position, Scale and Rotation
Move, rotate, scale or mirror an STL mesh with a local preview. Review coordinate bounds and export the transformed geometry without uploading your model.
Supported input and output
Binary and ASCII STL → binary STL. All distances are model units; STL has no intrinsic units.
Understand the transform order
Uniform scale and optional mirroring happen first, followed by X, Y and Z rotation, then translation. Centering or base placement is applied last when selected. Mirroring adjusts triangle winding to preserve orientation. Distances remain model-coordinate units, so resizing does not discover or encode the intended physical unit of an STL.
How to use this tool
- Select an STL and review its current coordinate bounds.
- Adjust scale, mirror, rotation and position while inspecting the live preview.
- Apply and export when the placement is correct; use Reset to discard the current workspace.
Limitations to check
- Basic mesh transforms, not parametric CAD or feature editing.
- Order: uniform scale/mirror, rotate X then Y then Z, translate, then optional centering/base placement.
- Mirroring reverses triangle winding to preserve orientation. Export may reject triangles that collapse at STL float32 precision.
- Transform-only editing does not run topology diagnostics or repair existing defects. Use STL Mesh Checker for a separate analysis.
File and processing limits
- STL input up to 8 MiB; 150,000 stored vertices and 50,000 triangles.
- Topology analysis: at most 150,000 edge records and 5 million weld comparisons.
- 20 seconds per job; generated STL output up to 3 MiB.
