Extrude an SVG into STL
Extrude supported filled SVG contours into STL. Set width and depth, preview locally and preserve supported holes; text and curved paths require preparation.
Supported input and output
SVG rect, circle, ellipse, polygon and closed straight M/L/H/V/Z paths → binary STL. Output centered in X/Y, base at Z=0.
Filled contours become a mesh with thickness
Supported filled shapes and closed straight paths are triangulated, including accepted compound-path holes, then extruded to the chosen depth. Nested transforms are applied before scaling the geometry to the selected width. The result is centered in X/Y with its base at Z=0; SVG page dimensions do not independently set print size.
How to use this tool
- Prepare filled geometry: supported shapes or closed straight M/L/H/V/Z paths.
- Choose the SVG, set output width and extrusion depth, and review the hole/fill preview.
- Export STL and confirm the chosen coordinate units when opening it for printing.
Limitations to check
- Even-odd and nonzero compound-path fill rules and holes are supported. Nested matrix/translate/scale/rotate transforms are applied.
- Circles and ellipses use 64 segments. Curved paths, rounded rectangles, strokes, text, CSS, effects and references are rejected. Convert to simple filled line paths first.
- Intersecting/touching contours and overlapping separate shapes are rejected. Separate disjoint shapes remain separate shells.
- Root viewBox/width/height do not define physical output: chosen width scales the geometry bounds. Scripts, handlers, DTDs and external assets are never executed or fetched.
File and processing limits
- SVG input up to 256 KiB, 256 elements and 16 nesting levels.
- At most 1,024 flattened points/path segments and 32 KiB per path; circles/ellipses use 64 segments.
- 20 seconds per job; 150,000 vertices, 50,000 triangles and 3 MiB output.
Processing happens in this browser; your file and filename are not uploaded. Cancel, reset or replace the file to stop its worker. Downloads are generated locally.
Questions about this workflow
Can I extrude text, strokes or curved path commands?
Those constructs are rejected. Convert text and strokes to filled contours in a vector editor and flatten curves into supported straight segments. Circles and ellipses are accepted separately and approximated with 64 segments.
