Convert STL to PLY
Export STL triangles as deterministic binary little-endian PLY geometry.
Supported input and output
ASCII or binary STL; PLY 1.0 with double-precision positions and triangle face lists.
A predictable binary PLY layout
The writer produces PLY 1.0 in binary little-endian encoding, with double-precision vertex positions and triangle face lists. Normals can be derived from winding; colors and physical units are not fabricated. Repeating the conversion with the same validated mesh produces the same output bytes.
How to use this tool
- Choose an STL and inspect its geometry.
- Convert to PLY.
- Download the binary little-endian file.
Limitations to check
- No colors or physical units are invented.
- PLY output stores positions and faces; normals can be derived from triangle winding.
- This conversion does not repair topology or reconstruct original polygons.
File and processing limits
- ASCII/binary STL up to 25 MiB, 750,000 stored vertices and 250,000 triangles.
- Generated mesh output is limited to 64 MiB.
- 30 seconds per mesh job. Browser memory and device speed can impose lower practical limits.
