Supported input and output

Geometry-first OBJ polygons and groups to static GLB 2.0 triangle meshes with normals.

Give unitless coordinates an explicit scale

Choose the intended units of the OBJ coordinates before export. The writer scales them to metres, the length convention used by glTF, then packages triangle geometry and normals in a single GLB. This step assigns a scale you provide; it does not discover the physical dimensions of an unknown OBJ.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose an OBJ and inspect it.
  2. Select the intended source coordinate units.
  3. Convert to GLB and download.

Limitations to check

  • You must supply the physical unit for the OBJ coordinates. Export converts that scale to metres without rotating the coordinate axes.
  • Only geometry, group structure and generated normals are packaged. Referenced MTL files, texture images and smoothing groups are not imported.
  • GLB stores float32 positions, so some coordinates may be rounded. A triangle that collapses at output precision stops export.
File and processing limits
  • OBJ input up to 25 MiB; 750,000 vertices, 250,000 triangles and 256 object/groups.
  • At most 16,384 characters per line, 1.5 million lines and 128 vertices per polygon.
  • Generated GLB is limited to 32 MiB; float32 precision can alter coordinates.
  • 30 seconds per mesh job. Browser memory and device speed can impose lower practical limits.

Processing happens in this browser; your file and filename are not uploaded. Cancel, reset or replace the file to stop its worker. Downloads are generated locally.

Questions about this workflow

Will my MTL and textures be included?

No. The supported input is OBJ geometry only. The GLB contains no reconstructed material or texture data, even if the OBJ refers to companion files.
