Convert Static FBX to STL
Bake supported binary FBX scene placements into a binary STL for your next mesh workflow.
Supported input and output
Static binary FBX 7.1–7.7 meshes to one binary STL. Polygon faces are triangulated and nested placements are baked into output coordinates.
Export scene meshes as positioned triangle shells
The FBX importer applies nested and geometric transforms, retaining the source coordinate axes. STL collects the resulting triangles into one file; distinct objects are not unioned into a solid. Check bounds and source units before download, then select millimetres on import when the workbench reports mm output.
How to use this tool
- Choose a supported static binary FBX model.
- Check transformed bounds and whether the workbench reports millimetres or unspecified units.
- Export STL, then verify its size and topology in the next application.
Limitations to check
- ASCII FBX and scenes requiring animation, rigs, deformers, constraints, caches or LOD evaluation are rejected. Non-mesh geometry must be converted in the source application.
- STL drops object labels, materials, textures, lights and cameras. Exported face normals follow the placed triangle winding, not FBX shading normals.
- Source axes remain unchanged. Declared supported units normalize to mm; files without units remain unspecified. An STL cannot carry that unit information itself.
- The export does not close surfaces, thicken walls or union overlapping scene objects. Inspect converted geometry before using it for printing.
File and processing limits
- Binary FBX up to 10 MiB; 512 nodes, 10,000 elements, hierarchy depth 32 and 128 placed meshes.
- 100,000 placed triangles; per source mesh: 200,000 vertices, 300,000 corners, 100,000 faces and 128 corners per polygon.
- 30 seconds per job; 64 MiB each for parser temporary/result allocations, 256 MiB maximum WASM heap, 24 MiB output. Browser rendering needs additional memory.
Processing happens in this browser; your file and filename are not uploaded. Cancel, reset or replace the file to stop its worker. Downloads are generated locally.
Questions about this workflow
Will a scene model automatically become printable?
No. Materials and visual appearance do not establish wall thickness, closedness or a valid solid. Use the mesh checker after conversion and inspect the model in a slicer before printing.
