Convert 3MF to OBJ
Extract transformed core 3MF geometry into OBJ mesh groups in millimetre coordinates.
Supported input and output
ZIP32 core mesh packages with supported build items and transforms; geometry-only OBJ output with normals and one group per placed mesh.
Move build geometry into a mesh editor
Core 3MF build items become OBJ groups at their transformed positions. Coordinates are normalized to millimetres, while package metadata, manufacturing settings and colors are left behind. OBJ groups help distinguish the imported geometry but are not equivalent to a 3MF build or component hierarchy.
How to use this tool
- Choose a supported 3MF package.
- Inspect its transformed geometry and unit information.
- Convert to OBJ; import the output as mm.
Limitations to check
- Manufacturing metadata, materials, colors and slicer settings are not preserved; no MTL is generated.
- Build items become mesh groups with transforms applied, without boolean union.
- Coordinates are normalized to mm. OBJ does not carry equivalent manufacturing semantics; set mm on import.
- Component assemblies, extensions and external models remain unsupported.
File and processing limits
- 3MF input up to 25 MiB; 128 ZIP entries, 32 MiB per expanded entry, 64 MiB total declared expansion and maximum ratio 200:1.
- XML: 16 MiB per part, 32 nesting levels and 1.5 million elements. Mesh: 750,000 vertices, 250,000 triangles, 256 build objects.
- Generated mesh output is limited to 64 MiB.
- 30 seconds per mesh job. Browser memory and device speed can impose lower practical limits.
